We'll begin with William Cass, who will present two one hour programs. In "Intergenerational Wealth Transfer: Planning Strategies to Connect with the Next Generation" Cass will provide actionable strategies around tax planning and efficient wealth transfer as potential tactics to help financial advisors make valuable connections. With over $30 trillion in wealth poised to shift generations over the next few decades, firms and financial advisors are challenged with helping clients manage the transition of that wealth. This presentation explores barriers financial advisors face in making critical connections with the next generation of their clients.
"Asset Protection: Strategies to help Clients Safeguard Wealth" focuses on a variety of strategies that can be employed to help your clients safeguard wealth. An asset protection plan is a natural component of a thoughtful and comprehensive wealth management strategy. Clients who have accumulated sizable retirement savings, established equity in their homes or businesses, and built other wealth should consider ways to protect their hard-earned assets from a lawsuit, civil claims or bankruptcy proceedings. Topics include: Taking care of basics - insurance to homestead exemptions; Retirement accounts and why it is important to understand the creditor protection differences between ERISA and non-ERISA plans; and Business ownership structures to limit liability including an overview of the "multiple LLC" strategy.
William Cass, CFP® is the Director of Wealth Management Programs for Putnam. He speaks regularly throughout the country to groups of financial advisors and investors on a wide range of topics, focusing on areas such as effective retirement income strategies, tax legislation developments, personal risk management and efficient wealth transfer.
The second half of our January program is on "ERISA Fiduciary Overview" presented by Chuck Self and Greg Moerchan. Attendees will: Learn the risks incurred when becoming an advisor on a retirement plan; Understand the protection afforded by and the process to acquire ERISA 3(38) and 3(16) fiduciaries; Receive updated information on the proposed DOL fiduciary role; and Know how to properly select investment allocation options for retirement plans.
Charles "Chuck" Self, MBA, CFA serves as the Chief Investment Officer and the Chief Operating Officer for iSectors® LLC, an Appleton, WI-based registered investment advisor that provides outsourced investment management services. With over 30 years of experience in the investment management industry, Mr. Self's cross section of experience and talents in portfolio management and working with advisor clients is well suited for iSectors future objectives. He is currently focusing in research, strategic marketing and advisor relationships.
Greg Moerchen is the founder of QBOX Solutions, LLC, a Fort Wayne, IN-based registered advisor that provides outsourced ERISA (3(38) investment management services to the qualified plan industry. Greg has over 25 years of experience in the investment management industry, starting in the broker dealer network and transitioning to an RIA in 2008. Most recently he has developed open architecture 401K products for socially responsible investment clients and FiduciarySelect. He is currently focusing on developing open architecture qualified plan products for RIAs and RIA firms. He believes that the qualified plan industry is at a tipping point and participants are demanding investment and fee transparency -- both supplied by advisors moving to the fiduciary standards required of an RIA.
