Please join FPA of Wisconsin on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan for a 4 hour education program and great networking. We'll meet on June 7, 2016 at The Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan, WI for a program on financial planning and health care.
We'll gather at 8:30 am for check-in and the program will begin at 9:00 am and end by 1:30 pm. NOTE - a continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Carolyn McClanahan, M.D., CFP® of Life Planning Partners, Inc., Jacksonville, FL will present "Incorporating Health into Planning" and "Financial Planning at the End of Life" for a total of four hours of continuing education. This will be Dr. McClanahan's second visit to our chapter. She received high scores and exceptional praise for her first program. She is a highly sought after speaker on this topic around the country.
Carolyn is the Director of Financial Planning at Life Planning Partners. She completed her undergraduate degree at Mississippi University for Women and medical school at the University of Mississippi. After residency in Family Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia, she entered private practice and emergency medicine practice in Richmond, Virginia. In 1998, she was recruited to teach on faculty at the University of Florida, Shands, Jacksonville.
Carolyn is a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), the Financial Planning Association, and the American Academy of Family Physicians. She also volunteers in the medical clinic of the I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless. Dr. McClanahan speaks nationally to financial planners and physicians on the interplay between health and financial issues. She has been quoted in numerous publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Money Magazine, Kiplinger’s, and Smart Money, and has appeared on CNBC and NPR. In 2009 she was named a “Mover & Shaker” in the financial planning profession by Financial Planning Magazine.
In "Incorporating Health into Planning", you'll learn that health care is a significant unknown for financial planners and their clients. Organizations such as Fidelity and Employee Benefit Research Institute offer averages and we know there is rarely an average person. Dr. McClanahan helps you refine how to plan for this unknown and how to effectively use health care information in various aspects of the planning process by:
- teaching you how to have easy and informative discussions with clients about health issues and how these issues may impact client planning;
- understanding the client's health care mindset so they can understand their part in controlling health care costs;
- and showing you how to incorporate the client's health care status with insurance planning, income planning, and advance directive planning.
"Financial Planning at the End of Life" will provide an understanding of how finances at the end of life present a major concern for both patients and their families. Financial planners are in a unique position to help clients through these difficult times. Dr. McClanahan will review how to comfortably approach end of life situations and work with clients on specific end of life concerns. She will cover tax planning, income planning, and beneficiary issues that need to be addressed through each stage of advanced illness. You will come away with a new comfort and appreciation on ways to help families through the end of life process.
Four CFP CE along with four WI Insurance CE have been approved.
